Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our manual and automatic driving lessons.

General Questions

What areas does Premium Driving School cover?

Premium Driving School provides driving lessons in Luton, Leighton Buzzard and St Albans, subject to instructor availability and the learner’s location.

Do you offer both manual and automatic driving lessons?

Yes. We offer both manual and automatic driving lessons, allowing you to choose the type of tuition that best suits your needs.

Do you provide lessons for complete beginners?

Yes. Our instructors can provide lessons for complete beginners with little or no previous driving experience. Lessons are tailored to your ability and progress.

Can I have driving lessons if I have already had some experience?

Absolutely. We provide lessons for learners with previous experience, including those who have had lessons with another instructor or have taken a driving test previously.

How long is a driving lesson?

Lesson duration can vary depending on the booking and your individual requirements. Please contact us for our current lesson durations and availability.

Manual Driving Lessons

Why should I learn to drive a manual car?

Learning in a manual vehicle gives you experience with gears, clutch control and a wider range of driving techniques. It may also provide greater flexibility when choosing which vehicles you can drive after passing your test.

Can I switch from automatic to manual lessons?

If you decide that you would prefer to learn in a manual vehicle, speak to your instructor. Subject to availability, arrangements can be made to continue your training in a manual car.

Automatic Driving Lessons

Are automatic driving lessons easier?

Many learners find automatic vehicles simpler to operate because there is no clutch pedal or manual gear changing. However, you still need to develop strong observation, planning, steering and road-safety skills.

Is an automatic driving licence different from a manual licence?

Yes. If you pass your practical driving test in an automatic car, your licence will normally restrict you to driving automatic vehicles. If you pass in a manual car, you can generally drive both manual and automatic vehicles.

Can I learn in an automatic car if I have never driven before?

Yes. Automatic lessons are suitable for complete beginners as well as learners who have previously driven a manual vehicle.

Driving Lessons & Progress

How many driving lessons will I need?

There is no fixed number of lessons that every learner needs. Progress depends on factors such as previous experience, learning pace, confidence, practice outside lessons and how frequently you have lessons.

Your instructor can assess your driving and provide guidance on the areas you need to work on.

How often should I have driving lessons?

Regular lessons can help maintain continuity and allow you to build your skills progressively. Your instructor can recommend a lesson schedule based on your availability and progress.

Can I have lessons at weekends or evenings?

Lesson availability depends on your instructor’s schedule. Please contact us to discuss your preferred days and times.

Can I choose where my lessons start?

We will try to arrange a convenient collection point within our coverage areas. Collection arrangements should be agreed with your instructor when booking.

Do you offer driving test preparation?

Yes. Our instructors can help you prepare for your practical driving test, including manoeuvres, independent driving, meeting test standards and developing confidence on different types of roads.

Can I use the instructor’s car for my driving test?

This may be possible, subject to your instructor’s availability, your readiness for the test and the relevant vehicle requirements. Please discuss this with your instructor before booking your test.

Driving Test Questions

Can you guarantee that I will pass my driving test?

No driving school can guarantee a driving-test result. Our instructors can help you prepare thoroughly and develop the skills required to drive safely and confidently.

What happens if I fail my driving test?

Don’t worry. Your instructor can review your test result with you, identify areas that need improvement and help you prepare for your next test.

Should I book my driving test myself?

Learners are generally responsible for booking their own practical driving test. Your instructor can advise you about your readiness and help you prepare for the test.

Learners must meet the legal eyesight requirements for driving. If you have concerns about your eyesight, you should seek appropriate professional advice before driving.

What should I bring to my first driving lesson?

You should bring your valid driving licence and any other information requested by your instructor. Wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear that allows you to operate the pedals safely.
